Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew
A Reader's Edition
A lightly modernised reader's edition of St John Chrysostom's homilies on Matthew, prepared for reading, study, and Scripture-linked exploration.
About this edition
These homilies of St John Chrysostom on the Gospel of Matthew are presented here in a lightly modernised English edition for easier reading.
The aim is not to rewrite Chrysostom, but to make an older English translation more accessible to a modern reader while preserving the meaning, argument, and character of the original work as closely as possible.
Each homily includes the principal Scripture passage it discusses, making it easier to move between Chrysostom’s preaching and the biblical text itself.
The modernisation has been produced with the assistance of language models and manually reviewed against the underlying public-domain English translation.
This remains a reader’s edition rather than a new critical translation. Readers wishing to study a passage closely should consult the original translation and, where necessary, the Greek text.
